Third Sight - Symbionese Liberation Album

In an age where even the more adventurous hip hop labels have faltered, the bleak, aural hip hop noir of Third Sight is more relevant than ever. Consisting of emceee Jihad, whose style takes a page from early Quannum/Solesides era Gift of Gab, and D-Styles, former member of the legendary dj team Invisibl Skratch Piklz (with Mixmaster Mike and Q-bert), letting his freestyle scratching talent take a back seat to some of the most dense beats this side of early Def Jux. Jihad threads lyrics in and out of the landscapes created by D-Styles to create a mindblowing exploration of a symbosis among many different people and races, as applied to the making of an album instead of a revolution ('Symbionese Liberation Album' is a nod to the Patty Hearst Kidnappers). Dark & smart, Third Sight is hip-hop revamped for 2006. Guests include MF Grimm, Ricci Rucker, Azeem & more. Check out "Smegma In D Minor" from the Symbionese Liberation Album, available this upcoming Tuesday Jan. 31st 2006. Cop it and support true skool hiphop!

Nas officially joins Def Jam

The rap superstars Jay-Z and Nas, who hurled bitter insults at each other in rhyme for years in one of rap's most prominent feuds, have reached a deal that would formalize their much-publicized recent truce and transform the two onetime foes into business partners, according to music industry executives involved in the arrangement.

The long-rumored deal sets the stage for Nas to join the artist roster of Def Jam Recordings, the rap label where Jay-Z became president last year in an unusual executive shuffle. But the two stars' personal cease-fire also evolved into an unconventional treaty of sorts between their competing record labels.

Dilated Peoples - Back Again

Dilated Peoples will launch their new album, 20/20, with a North American headlining tour and two television appearances. The acclaimed hip-hop trio will perform their new single, “Back Again,” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on February 20th (the eve of the album’s release) and on “Last Call With Carson Daly” on February 28th. In between television appearances, they’ll kick off their tour at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on February 20th. Other tour highlights include two days at S.O.B.’s in New York City (March 15th & 16th).

“Back Again” is off to a great start at radio, with first-week adds by Top 40 rhythmic stations in such major markets as Los Angeles (PWR 106 and KDAY), Miami (PWR96), San Francisco (KMEL), Portland, OR (KXJM) and San Diego (XMOR). The accompanying video, which features cameos from B-Real, the Alchemist, Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stars, The Gracie Family, has been selected for the latest round of Yahoo! Music’s “Stop! Watch” program, which began January 9th. Every four weeks, “Stop! Watch” selects four breakthrough videos and gives them unprecedented exposure through immediate heavy rotation and additional promotion on Yahoo! Music.

20/20 explodes out of the speakers with some of the most forceful beats of Dilated Peoples’ career. As fans will see with the upcoming tour, the group took special care to make 20/20 an exciting aural experience that would translate well to the stage. “When we’re in the studio,” explains Rakaa, “we try to capture the energy that happens on stage.”

The humor and insightful social commentary that inform the tag-team rhyming of Rakaa and Evidence combined with the turntable prowess of DJ Babu have made the trio one of hip-hop’s most respected groups. Dilated Peoples first gained recognition with their 1997 ABB Records single “Third Degree” backed with “Confidence” and “Global Dynamics.” Capitol Records released The Platform, their full-length debut, in 2000 followed by Expansion Team in 2001 and 2004’s Neighborhood Watch, which included the hit “This Way,” produced by and featuring Kanye West.

Zion I

Live Up Records, LLC

Buy at iTunes Music Store
--------
According to our hiphop resident DJ Audio1, Zion I's True & Livin' is one of the top 10 hiphop albums of 2005. They continue to innovate with the same freshness they did on "Mind Over Matter" and "Deep Water Slang v2.0" and this album is very consistent with fresh beats and rhymes all the way thru. Recently, one of the album's tracks "The Bay" got a remix with some Bay area luminaries and has been getting play on KMEL and other west coast radio stations. Good to see Zion I still on the grind into 2006. Enjoy this download of "Temperature" featuring East coast All-Star Talib Kweli and cop the album via iTunes.

A7X: Avenged Sevenfold

Avenged Sevenfold are breaking ground for the next generation of metal bands while being influenced by the classics like Guns 'N Roses and Metallica. They took some criticism for their change in sound on their latest album, City Of Evil, but fans seemed to like the results. A7X even had a song at the top of MTV's TRL. In an interesting interview lead singer M. Shadows tells how the band is adjusting to their newfound popularity and scrutiny, which countries he thinks have the best fans, the band's plans for their next album, and much more.

Aceyalone new album to drop

10 years later and Aceyalone is still killin' em on the mic, with the same style and finesse that we remember him from the old Project Blowed/Good Life days. This week, We received the promo single to Aceyalone's upcoming album, "Magnificent City", which will be available on Feb. 7th 2005 on Decon. The single is entitled "Fire" and is produced by beat wizard RJD2. You have a relaxed, laid back Aceyalone on a party vibe. Good lyrics, good beat and Acey still killin' it. Def some good music to look forward to heading into 2006. Check the lead single from the new album and cop the album "Magnificent City" when it drops!

Clerks 2

According to Kevin Smith:

"Over the last week or so, I've been cutting together a teaser for the new flick, and this morning, we post it up. For those who're trying to avoid spoilers, don't worry: it's not a very revealing two minutes, as it gives away precious little about the movie's plot. It's merely a sneak peek at what "Clerks II" looks and feels like, set to one of my favorite tunes of all time.

Some folks have asked why I'm even bothering to put any footage of the flick out there, eight months before it'll hit theaters. The only reason I can sight is that I'm proud of the flick; I fucking love it, and I can't wait to share it with the world. Just as "Clerks" was a film about what I felt it was like to be in my twenties, "Clerks II" is a film about how I feel it's like to be in my thirties, and for the audience which has made that trans-generational journey along with us over the last decade, I think it's gonna really connect in a big way. But chuck that aside: after the great test run of the flick last month, this just felt like the right time to put up some footage for the fan-base.

But to do a full trailer this far in advance of our theatrical release would be akin to us getting into a sixty nine with the viewer, blowing (or licking) them while hovering our sopping wet pussy/throbbing hard cock within an inch of their face, and then quickly dismounting before any spasms of release and euphoria could occur, getting dressed, and telling them we'll see 'em in August, while heading out the door. Rather than subject folks to that, we present, instead, the cinematic equivalent of a genital flash: just a quick enough glimpse of what we have in store for you to give you something to think about while you're tugging/rubbing one out over the next few months, with the added promise of three-hole input down the road (sorry ladies: I couldn't think of the male equivalent of three-hole input... except maybe the utter and complete lack of request for three-hole input).

So without further adieu, I give you a little whiff of "Clerks II"..."

Digital Bombings response... It's either going to suck ass or It's going to be the greatest film ever made... Nice use of Anthrax on the trailer!

El Da Sensei is back

Widely known as a former member of the legendary Hip Hop duo The Artifacts, lyrical icon El Da Sensei is gearing up for the release of his second solo album, The Unusual, which will be released on February 28th on Fat Beats Records. This album brings a new edge to the New Jersey emcee that fans know and love. El Da Sensei started his phenomenal career over a decade ago with The Artifacts, and released his independent solo debut album entitled Relax, Relate, Release in 2002. The Unusual will deliver a different aspect of his versatile talent. “I definitely didn’t want to come like the last album,” explains El. “I felt like Relax, Relate, Release was a little bit personal for everybody. With this album I just wanted to go back to basics and bring a certain kind of fire back to myself.” A creative mix of traditional Hip Hop pairs true-school rhymes over heavy-hitting beats for The Unusual, and the exciting lineup of producers includes Jake One, Saukrates, DJ Revolution, Illmind and Fusion. Inspired guest vocals come from Boot Camp Clik’s Sean Price on “No Matter” and DITC member O.C. on “Nothing To Lose”. Check out the new single for the upcoming release!

Redman, The Metalhead!

Since his very public disapproval of the way Def Jam were promoting him, Redman has been real quiet. Now with yet another date set for the release of 'Red Gone Wild', Red has apparently been putting in some personal time creating a metal band with producer Adam F. The pair haven't worked together since their collaboration on 'Smash Sumthin', but the two teamed up again for Red's current single, 'Rush The Security' and next year could see them getting tighter according to Mr F, with Red apparently having already laid vocals for the project. As yet there's no name for the band and no date for the project's release.

Atari and Echo to release Graffiti based game

Marc Ecko’s long awaited venture into video gaming is finally due for release with the premise of the game centring around a world where graffiti has been banned and freedom of expression has been suppressed by a tyrannical city government, in a city called New Radius. (Well plotlines from graffiti based games were always gonna be a little problematic). Within the game you start out as ‘Trane’, a beginner, (or “toy”), who is voiced by Talib Kweli and work your way up to becoming the ‘All City King’. Real life graffiti artists not only lend their signature tags and artwork to be used for to the environments, but also teach Trane, in-game, skills and techniques like painting burners, wheat pasting and stencils. There are also some noteworthy A-listers who make an appearance including Rosario Dawson, Brittany Murphy, George Hamilton, Adam West, The RZA, and Michael ‘MC Serch’ Berrin. And in December MTV Films picked up the rights to make the game into the film, which is currently in pre-production, ’Getting Up’ the videogame, will be release February 2006 on PS2 and Xbox.
